...or "The Story of Stevie, the Duck with Nine Lives"...
Life #1: Amanda saves Stevie the duckling from getting stepped on in the feed-store where we bought her.
Life #2: Stevie gets sick as a young duck and is saved by a dose of vitamin B-12
Life #3: Stevie's roommates, the STUPID chickens try to kill her by pecking her eyes...Kevin saves her and sets her up with her own living-space. The dogs sacrifice their kennel to make this possible.
Life #4: In an attempt to assuage Stevie's apparent loneliness, she is allowed to return to the chicken coop. The vicious, STUPID chickens try to peck her eye out again. Stevie is returned to her bachelor-ette pad to live alone in supposed safety.
Life #5 (and today's little adventure): Stevie is viciously attacked by a marauding-mink who escaped from a nearby mink farm and was looking for a duck-dinner. Stevie, aka the wonder-duck - survives by playing possum behind her water dish.
This morning Kev put the dogs out and they immediately started barking at the duck's yard. Kev looked and didn't see anything, so he shooed the dogs away. What Kev didn't know was there was a mink in the pen w/ the duck. As soon as the dogs showed up, the mink hid in the duck-house. When the dogs moved away, the mink came out to finish the duck. That's when Kev saw it. He came in to get his shoes on and the mink somehow got into the chicken coop.
*on a side note*
How that mink got into the chicken-coop equivalent of Fort Knox, is a mystery. We have it chicken wired and secured like a vault. Apparently, not enough.
*end side note*
The mink had one chicken by the back of the neck and wouldn't let go, even when Kev went in to the pen to stop it. Kev whacked it in the head with a stick to get it off, and it ran and hid in the hen house.
The rest of the story is pretty simple...no more mink...beat-up chickens...beat-up duck...Kevin is even more my hero!
...and Stevie the duck has used up another of her lives...

Blogging...
Ok, this is a first for me...I'm going to "blog" about blogging. Hee hee that just sounds silly. I have a few blogs that I follow regularly. I got started by reading my dear friend, Kerrianne Burch's blog, The Burch Tree. Kerri is the one who designed the banner for "Happy Acres". ' Talented' and 'gifted' describe Kerri very well.
Another blog I follow is the "Nie-Nie Diaries". If you haven't seen it, heard about it on the news (Today show and Oprah), check it out here:
www.nieniedialogues.blogspot.com
Hers is an amazing story! I also follow her sister's blog, which can be seen here: blog.cjanerun.com In Cjane's blog today, she had a link to Whitney King's blog. Whitney is doing her thesis on blogging, which is what prompted this post, today.
Whitney has a questionnaire on her blog-site, regarding why we blog. Join the cause and support higher education! Go to her blog-site and fill out the form. It only takes a few minutes and will make you think of your blogging in a new light. Think of it as your good deed for the day! Did I mention that she will be giving away a gift certificate to Target? For all of you fellow-bloggers out there, here is the link to her blog-site:
www.thekingandiblog.com/p/blogging-questionnaire.html
I filled it out this morning. She had some good questions.
For me, blogging is a way of keeping in touch with family and friends when we don't live close anymore. It's better than the "once-a-year" Christmas newsletter in that we can share what's happening in our lives in more detail. I have always loved writing and am an avid journal-keeper. In a way, blogging is just a natural extension of my personal journal. I look at it as a "family-history-journal".
Anyways, check out Whitney's questionnaire. It's for a good cause and you might get some free shopping out of it.
PS: Spring has "officially" sprung, but Utah doesn't seem to know that. Here are some pictures from our latest family outing...
These were up American Fork Canyon. You might say, "Well, of course there's snow in the mountains." HAH!! We woke up to snowy weather AGAIN this morning. Someone needs to tell the weather that it's officially Spring!

A new favorite!!!
I have a new favorite!!! Don't quite know what to call it... Hobby? Nope, not a hobby. Interest? Well, it's interesting, but NAH! Not that, either. Leisure activity??? Yeah! THAT'S IT!!!
Mandy is in drama-class at school. As part of her grade, she has to see a play, live in a theater and do a report on it. In trying to help her get the credits she needed, I researched community theatre in our area and found a gem:
It's a theatre in the round, so everyone has a good seat. It's small and intimate, so you almost feel like you're part of the production.
Tonight I took the girls to see ...
Amanda found a new favorite actor, and even got his autograph! I have to say, she has good taste! He was pretty cute, and really did an amazing job!
What a great evening!

Cat Whisperer...
You've heard of the "Horse Whisperer"? At our house, Jackie has earned the title of "Cat-Whisperer". They all seem to congregate where ever she is.
Yesterday she leaned down next to where Sassy (her cat) was sleeping on the back of the sofa. This was the result.
